New wood

Glowforge shipping next Friday. So happy. Got questions tho. How do you go about using new wood. Like just cut wood.

You need to make sure it’s the correct size to fit the bed. It needs to be less than 1/2 inch in thickness unless you plan to take out the crumb tray, depending on what you’re doing, you may want to use masking tape so you don’t see burn marks. You will need to choose the uncertified material when you choose your material (or I just use set focus so you don’t have to caliper the thickness of the material). Then, put your settings for the material and print. For starters, you can choose a material that is proofgrade and see what their settings are to decide ‘where’ to start.

when you say “new wood,” and “just cut wood,” you mean wood that hasn’t been dried yet? that’s not going to go well.

Here’s the thing: Freshly cut wood has a ton of moisture which may make it difficult to cut. Additionally, as you cut the wood is going to very quickly lose that moisture, which will make the wood warp and twist. Dried wood is always the best bet for projects.
