It’s hard to believe that I’ve now had a Glowforge in my workshop for nine years! A pre-release unit was delivered on 3/29/2017.
My production Basic arrived five months later and after one warranty exchange was an absolute beast for the next seven years until it suffered a nervous breakdown (the laser tube was still going strong!). I took that opportunity to upgrade to a Pro HD.
Huge thanks to @dan and the rest of the Glowforge team—I’m looking forward to another nine years!!!
My scenario nearly mimics that of @dwardio ‘s. My pre-release arrived on August 2nd, 2017. The lid came unglued on that first one, so they sent a replacement…then I think that one lasted almost eight years….before it finally died and now I have an HD pro. It really IS true….time flies when you’re having fun. Long live our Glowforges and yes, many thanks to Dan and all the teams that made it happen.
What’s extra interesting to me is that pre-releases were going out in March and August, yet my full production machine arrived in December 2017, and I was far from the first to receive.
Once they got to the point of field testing the turnaround to full production was quite fast!
It took a while to get to field testing, but I’m so glad to have had the forum for a couple years before then so we could commiserate & celebrate together!
I’m grateful for each of the original 77 that are still here.
I’m on my third as well, my pre release which was dubbed Prometheus, my first pro that ran strong until the door dislodged and now my second pro that has some querks but runs strong.
I used that very long wait time to learn about lasers and started learning what was involved in designing. Started out with Inkscape but found Affinity more to my liking.
I’m still using my Basic that I got through the crowdfunding. Since I’m in Canada, ours came later than the US units. I’ve had mine since January 2019. The laser tube is still going strong. I’ve only had to replace the lens, the black ribbon cable and one stepper motor cable.
