Non GF related: Printing your own stickers

I’ve been curious about doing my own sticker printing for a while and was curious if anyone else has been doing it? What is the initial cost? Quality and longevity are probably also factors. Looking to print stuff like this with the white boarder

(No these aren’t mine, they are from T-turtle but they were the quickest way to show what I meant)

The only stickers I’ve ever done is when we used to sell our honey and I made them on the Avery whole-sheet labels and using my HP color LaserJet. I think Avery has glossier label sheets if you need a little shine to them, but I’m really not sure. At the time, I did a lot of playing around getting the stickers to match up in the GF so I didn’t have to cut them all out by hand, but it worked. I don’t have any pics though, as we quit selling our honey and I deleted my file. :frowning:

I do lables just to mark things but I know that they will fade if left in the sun and don’t look that good from the get go. You have two (or more) choices, buy a dye sub printer or farm this out. I always farm it out as there are small business that will do a great job for reasonable. I like Rocken Monkey myself but there are several.

There are several threads here in the forum regarding stickers. Here is one (read to the end): Glass Pebbles and Polyester Stickers - #6 by bill_laba

Regarding dye sub, I am pretty sure many of the tank-based inkjet printers can use dye sub ink. That’s how we did it 20 years ago, and made decals for RC models primarily.

I make print-and-cut stickers on the polyester sticker sheets with a color laser printer and the Glowforge somewhat regularly. I sometimes finish them with spray varnish when I want more durability. None of them that I see regularly are in places where they get a lot of abuse but, no degradation in them in years.

I have a plotting cutter and, suspect print-and-cut alignment would be easier/better with that, if I could get around to sorting it out.

Haha… yeah, got one of those too.

I bought a spray UV-shielding laquor for that kind of thing years ago. Can’t even tell it’s been used…

This stuff makes gorgeous stickers:

JANDJPACKAGING Printable Vinyl for Inkjet & Laser Printer - 30 Pack Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper Glossy White - Standard Letter Size 8.5"x11" Amazon.com

They call it vinyl but I doubt that it is PVC. Probably polyester based but you should test if you want to use it in your laser. I print with inkjet then cut it with a Silhouette cutter.
