Loved this and I had to grin when I saw this u2 all decked out with modern avionics but there is still the piece of yarn as a “yaw string”.
I had to look up Yaw String (thank you for the unexpected bit of education this morning). I bet that is not just ordinary yarn, it is FAA Certified, Mil Spec Yarn.
Considering the fact that there is an NSN (national stock number) for almost everything in existence I’d not be a bit surprised to find out they ordered it instead of bringing a sample from home.
An airline pilot who takes epic photos of storms (and other things). What else can I add to that?
@hansepe will like this I think.
Wow
Wow, indeed. Those are some cool shots.
And now these: LiDAR images of rivers.
“That sounds dry, Dave” I hear you thinking
I assure you data is beautiful.
Not only beautiful but I think this is the first time I have seen your first name. Now I’ll have to stop referring to you as “the other Evans”.
Eh, I like the other Evans; you’re my other Evans. I also answer to evansd2 both here and meatspace. Lots of people in my RL know me as evansd2 from time we worked together at various tech jobs… and I have a bunch of old workfriends that I call by their usernames too. What a time to be a human!
The other Evans it is then! cool to know you have a first name though.
Every now and then you see a good wholesome hack and you just gotta give a golf clap.
About what data you can glean from inflight wifi without an internet connection. Pretty cool.
All the people calling you “Evan” on Discord have been fun. At least they’re not badgering you to upgrade to HD.
Upgrade to HD?
And a fair number of people here call me Evan too
As opposed to Evan SD …
Standard Definition vs High Definition.
Sorry, overly clever “humor” on my part.

We have thought about doing this in our basement as we finish I since there are no windows, and having cameras outside corresponding with what would be viewed if there were windows.
That’s very cool - but for some reason none of the flight data images are loading for me I can figure out what they show based on the descriptions, but all the coding ones show just fine so I’m not sure what the difference is.
Yeah, all I got was black squares.
Maybe try a different browser? Works for me in Chrome.
