Nonlaser things that I think GFers will find interesting

Apologies to all other eufyMake E1 backers. I jinxed us all!

I don’t mind that they are finding problems. Well done to the beta testers! I hate expecting delivery soon after being told that production was ramping up and “thousands will be made and shipped” that another cheap part has stopped everything.

On the bright side, they’re running out of surprise things to break. I didn’t have ink cartridges on my bingo list, but then I never expected the reservoir would be the issue it was either.

I hope they keep their 2 week update schedule for backers and I’ve reset my delivery expectation (with no good reason) to Feb/Mar next year with a huge “maybe” attached. ¯\(ツ)

I agree with all of that. My annoyance is with the lack of transparency. The people who are going to be upset about manufacturing delays are going to be upset no matter what you do. Those of us who understand that things happen appreciate being told when something happens so we can adjust expectations. Also, I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to speak in terms of when something is shipping from China rather than shipping to end consumers, but they need a good knock upside the head.

Still excited for it, but I just splurged on an xTool F2 to tide me over. I’m excited to be able to do some basic engraving on metal. It’s the one thing I really missed with the GF. And it’s arriving in a week.

Oooh which one did you get? Be real careful about your ventilation, I’m losing it watching the videos of people engraving stuff with zinc etc.

Is that a toxicity issue?

Probably concerned about metal fume fever which happens if you inhale vaporized metal oxides.

I just got the portable F2. I wanted something that’s easy for me to pull out at my studio for a quick project. My GFs are at home.

I got a filter so I can laser wherever I want and will eventually set up a vent outside for bigger projects (and to conserve the filter). I’m less concerned with ventilation than I am with people lasering with the cover up and no eye protections. :scream: I guess that’s also a potential ventiliation issue.

Yup, I posted about it in 2018.

Oof that’s over 7 years ago.

Haha, all roads lead back to… you!

One of the hats I wear is jeweler (do jewelers wear hats?), and inhaled / atomized zinc is high up there on my list of things to be careful of. Unknown metals can contain, well, who knows what, but zinc is very common additive for bronze and brass (and many solders). The good news is it’s way more reversible than silicosis!

Better to avoid it entirely. I second your excellent advice about ventilation. I wouldn’t play with my health like that.

This reminds me of the flurry of threads we had way back then on “oh yeah, this one is bad for breathing”.

Lacewood is the one I remember, but there were others.

@hansepe and @chris1, I bet you’ll like this.

@shogun too. And @eflyguy. And @timjedwards and probably others.

This is really cool too.

It’s all really interesting, but jump to about 6:15 if you want to see the end result.

Always interesting.

The stat about nurse pay rates makes me want to throw things.

That is really cool. I need to go price one out

The panels will be the biggest part. They call for 20x 16x16 LED panels, they’re about 6-8$ apiece. That adds up!

I need to get smart enough to have hobbies that don’t cost a lot. I am nowhere near that smart right now!

I’m willing to spend $150 or $160 to have some fun.

I agree with you. To use that metric on ANYBODY is beyond the pale, but nurses? Better duck with both of us throwing things

It reminded me of how Uber charges higher rates if your phone battery is low. They figure you’re desperate for a ride.

Or how airlines were charging different rates based on if you have a Mac vs a PC (which seems quaint now because if you dig into airfare pricing you’ll be amazed at all the ways they slice and dice people to take advantage. Like solo flyers being charged more than couples now. It’s the worst.)

Capitalism is great. Nothing going wrong here!

That’s just the tip of the abuse RNs are getting:

Or, if you want a summary with color commentary:

It really does conjure thoughts of historical European imagery c. 1789.

Yeah. I find a lot of that stuff maddening as well. Every now and again I get tired of having my pockets picked. Oh well.
