The short answer is: Yes it needs internet to function.

Can we use the GF without internet connection?

I know it may sound silly but! I know I am not the only one wondering… Can we just connect the GF directly to the computer and send the jobs to the GF to be printed? (I am kind of new in “the cloud” area)
