Ornament trio

My first marquetry project. Lots of veneer harmed by experimentation!

(1) Cherry, sycamore, abalone shell
(2) Walnut, maple, abalone shell

Thanks go to @amandarogers808 for letting us know about abalone shell veneer.

Those are beautiful! Nacra is a wonder of nature, the way it refracts light. The inlays look nice and tight. :sunglasses:

In case you were wondering about the unusual design… it came from DALL-E 3.

The prompt was something like “An elegant work of art in the form of three minimalist flat christmas ornaments, made with maple, walnut, and colored abalone shell inlay, flat and polished; made with a glowforge”. This was one of the results:

I tried making plain flat versions of it, but it looked really lifeless. You can’t really tell from the photos, but it made a huge difference to add a bit of dimensionality, the three materials being different thicknesses.
