Paper soccer ball

Hi everyone, after two weeks of Pro breakdown, I received a replacement Pro HD (thanks to the awesome Glowforge team), which cuts so much faster (is it my imagination)? I managed to cut all my 90+ sheets for a library event within one day. Here is the design and the final piece. Letter-size paper. 30 strips make a 9.5 inch diam ball. No glue needed. The short lines are here to help guide the assembling process.

Love a good polyhedral project. The geometric name for this shape is a truncated icosahedron, you might like to see some of the examples that I and others have made:

I like yours a lot, paper craft is great and it’s elegant how it’s woven and doesn’t need glue.

Very fun. Using scores as fold lines is a good idea.

Thanks for all the support. I love the challenge of a workshop, because the project has to be interesting enough but also possible for most people to finish within 90 minutes. Workshop projects are therefore different from my own line of work, which can take infinite amount of time to finish. Over the years I have eliminated glue from workshop projects.

This is the simplest version I can come up with for the soccer ball. I have run this workshop twice and people end up enjoying more of my comfort project, the dodecahedron, which is made of 6 strips of straight bands with folds.
