Patch Cap

I’ve been making a lot of patch hats recently and wondered if it would work for my surgical cap. And before someone freaks that I am showing a MLB logo without the permission of the commissioner we are actually the official hospital for the Red Sox (and actually provide emergency medical support at Fenway which is next door). Anyway I normally wear a surgical cap on my overnights (it gets REALLY cold in the hospital at night or my endocrine system has failed from exhaustion) and covering my bald head is comfortable. But always a challenge to know who someone is since we all wear the same outfits, so decided a patch cap would be a nice way. So our group is “HMED” which is hospital medicine (our specialty) and then I work as a nocturnist (we are the night-fighters of the hospital, running alone in the dark with little support), so made this patch. It was a little tricky to align the cap in the hat press since it doesn’t have the rim that a baseball cap has that align in the press, but got it, 30s at 300. This is Lonestar Adhesive leatherette. In theory it is washable, and we will see (probably can’t dry it without the adhesive loosening). Now that I do the patches in leatherette I am never doing a natural leather patch, so much easier, no need for masking (just use some LA Awesome to clean the spew off after) and no horrific smell…

And this is night 5 of 7, so I look a little ragged…

Oh quick tip, turn off the air assist (that’s recommended) to prevent the patch from blowing away, and on leatherette there is no need for it if you have dialed in settings. I have nice engrave, cut and score settings for these patches that don’t cut through.
