I understand that PVC vinyl can’t be used with a glowforge, but what about patent leather? It’s a polyurethane and acrylic coating. As long as it’s shiny side down, is it safe to cut?

Yes, PU leather is safe to laser. If you’re sure it’s polyurethane and not PVC, go for it.

Thank you! It’s definitely not pvc, right from my leather supplier. I tried it out, and definitely will be using it shiny side down next time.

If you’re not doing a fine engrave, it also takes masking very well.
This is good advice! I can’t remember who did it, but someone tested stuff labeled as “PU” from Hobby Lobby (I believe), and it was not pure polyurethane.
