I would never buy leather, but would like to use the sample that came with the GF so it’s not wasted. Is there a setting or material (other than leather) that I can experiment with first to make a draft?
If you have some EVA foam, that works pretty well. Or cardboard, if you squish it flat. We can’t discuss settings in this area, only in Beyond the Manual, but if you search over there you should find plenty of trial settings for both materials.
