The issue of free will aside a lot of our quick reflexes are faster than they should be if a signal has to travel up the nervous system to the brain and back down again. This is a small factor in robotics design, at least the human/animal kind, in how to distribute processing tasks. While signal speed obviously is not a huge factor in a robot, off loading some basic functions to the local limb could be a good idea.

Is that EVA smooth both sides? Where is it from?
Yeah, it is smooth on both sides. Its craft foam from hobby lobby/michaels/lot of other places.
If you are looking for thicker EVA foam , like 1/4" of standard grey, but smooth on both sides and high quality you should check out:

Thanks. I’ve been using the Home Depot stuff for current projects but I needed the grip so it was beneficial. I really want to try a few props and loath sanding, especially foam, so I’ll definitely check them out.
