Proofgrade coasters- added finish

Hi everyone. I’ve seen some lovely coasters in both cork and proofgrade plywood. Someone would like to order some proofgrade coasters and has asked if any additional finish should be applied. I haven’t made coasters in the past and wondering if anyone has seen how well the finish that’s already on the plywood holds up over time or if they recommend any additional protection? Varied results with engravings also?

For a coaster, which is going to be exposed to moisture, I’d definitely use a sealer. I built a brush holder that lasted for almost a year from Proofgrade plywoods that I didn’t seal, but eventually it did start to swell a little. (The cut edges lose protection, and any engraved areas.)
