Check out #6 in this post:

You can find a good test method to dial your settings in on any new material. Piece of cake!

Also welcome to the forum, sorry it’s not for a more fun reason

When using non Proofgrade material, select a similar proofgrade material as a place to start your testing. Select one of the acrylics and look at the cut settings. You will not see speed 500.

I use these settings for cutting cast acrylic:

1/32 thick - 300/100
1/16 thick - 200/100
1/8 thick - 175/FULL

Maybe those will get you started.

If it’s typical 1/8th" acrylic (tap plastic, inventables, home depot, etc.), then my default rule is “just use Red”. PG Red’s settings are my go-to settings for most colored 1/8th" and 1/4" acrylic. If the acrylic is more blue, then “just use Blue”, and if it’s clear then “just use Clear”.

The only real issue is the cover tape.

  • If it’s plastic, then remove it! I have a roll of paper tape that I use instead.
  • If it’s paper tape, then leave it.

I see that you got your answer for this - but for the future, might I suggest going through:

Especially for acrylic there’s very few times you’d need to work in manual mode, and using the :glowforge: provided pre-sets is faster than trying to figure out manual settings every time!
