I have read on this topic and have tried til I am ready to throw in the towel. I am needing this image for a silhouette for wedding invitations. I cannot accomplish removing the Black border and have dog merged into image. I need help PLEASE.

Not sure exactly what you want (placement, etc.) but that first image is a .jpg (bitmap image) so you would delete the border in a program like PaintNet or GIMP, and then trace it in a program like Inkscape; the dog you can just trace. Here are the components after being traced, let us know if you need more assistance!
