Router Compass

Another use for the Glowforge on a project with no laser-cut parts!

BB-8 is basically a 20" ball. A big, heavy, ball. Something you can’t really throw in the back of your pickup truck and take somewhere. Enter Glowforge (and some other wood tools.)

I wanted to cut perfect semicircles out of some 1" pine I had in the garage. Too thick for Glowforge - but 1/8" plywood is another story. I took a photo of the bottom of my router, imported it into the Glowforge app, added circles to mirror the holes in the router base and extended one end out past the 10" I needed as my radius.

Screwed this onto the bottom of the router under the plate, and I had a circle cutter!

Popped a screw into the pivot hole, then ran the router around the boards, made two “U” cuts to allow the boards to interlock and… Poof!

A little protective foam along the edges, and he’s not rolling anywhere until I want him to.

I love people who use their tools to make tools to make things.
