Screenprinting with Avocados

I stumbled on this recently:

The author (Chris of Lost Wax) mentions that some people use acrylic paint to coat fine steel mesh, then use the laser to clear areas for making a screen. His technique with avocado looks like it works pretty well, if you want less-durable/reusable screens.

He appears to be using a 22 watt diode laser for this.

In any case, this might be a DIY alternative to the commercial xtools screens for those who want to play with lasering screens.

What an interesting technique! I never would have thought to try to use an avocado as resist.

That’s cool - it’s also the first screenprinting article I’ve read that made it make sense for me! Let’s hear it for beginners writing the instructions - it’s better almost every time.

I love these types of projects and especially a completely crazy idea that actually works.

It turns out that you don’t have to toast your avocados with a laser.

It reminds me of laser engraving metal using mustard.

To me there is great satisfaction when tools don´t remain idle in the chest and have been put to good use.
