Selenite plate engraving

I got a selenite ‘plate’ and had to try engraving. The artwork is a combination of elements from this game I love called Sky. The selenite engraves beautifully and looks gorgeous with a battery candle behind it. Ordered some more blanks and I’m going to try tinting the engraved parts next time!

Sodium selenite is toxic, but these are the gypsum form and I haven’t been able to find anything saying that’s a problem. To be safe I had the filter on high and kept a face mask on when I’d check on it. They’re Mohs 2 so very soft, and take engraving details really well!

Ok, as you probably already know, as long as it doesn’t produce chlorine gas as a byproduct, then is should be safe for the laser. Otherwise it will corrode components…be careful in all instances, with off-gassing

That looks beautiful!!! Mighty I ask what settings you used?

Sure! I used the ones from this post, actually: Selenite Engrave settings

And I set the focal height to the actual height. Worked great.
