Shadowbox for craft swap

Hi all! I participate in swaps with an online crafting group, and one of our recent challenges was to include light. I immediately thought of a shadow box as I’ve seen some amazing ones and just hadn’t gotten around to making one myself.
After a bit of searching on construction techniques (and a first attempt that had to be put aside to fiddle with later) it’s done!
The whole thing was designed in Inkscape and cut on the glowforge (except the glass!). The box frame (7" x 9") is made of PG cherry med. ply. There are 2 pieces of foamcore frame between each layer and I used watercolor paper for the shadow casting layers.
The construction:

I initially tried a led light strip with remote, but the lights weren’t bright enough for me so I switched to fairy lights. I was limited to ones powered by batteries as I didn’t want the recipient to be limited in where they placed the box. The cord runs out the back and the battery pack was attached with velcro.

Now to tweak the original frame box to make another. . .

That’s quite lovely. I like the stars in the sky a lot.

I absolutely love this! My brother has been doing similar things for years…using transparencies of B/W photos. He’s never used lights, but instead lets the illumination from a window come in through the back. He doesn’t own a laser, but this is such a great example of what he could do with one.
Yours is really beautiful!

I love the translucency of the background in the ‘dark’ phase.
