Table/workbench auto-plan-creating website (Incite-focus)

Tested.com has posted a number videos about a maker space called incite-focus that focuses on building systems that help people build stuff. An amazing thing they just covered is a website they have that will let you input the dimensions of a workbench and it will output files to create it. You can accomplish this in inkscape with the trace function. You can set the edge detection thresholds to meet your needs.

Likewise if you want to work on it in raster mode, in gimp you can desaturated your image (this converting to greyscale) then use curves to make a “step” instead of a curve shape to converts it to black and white at whatever “threshold” you like. You’ll have far more control over the output.

Does anybody remember that site where you upload your svg that has multiple pieces and it automatically re-arranges them to make them have the best fit? I had it once but now I can’t find it.

I’ve ust tried the SVGnest site, but I assume you have to scale your svg to fit their ‘bin’, as I can’t see how to enlarge it !

I almost never work from a full sheet of material so have not bothered to look at it. Remember the name from a year or so back.

I thought to include a 11x19.5 rectangle around my file, but the software still includes a small rectangle of its own, and there seems to be no way to get rid of it.
The program then includes that as an object, so it makes the whole process rather pointless !
IMHO.

I think I am beginning to naturally choose projects that require about 1 full-size sheet of material.
