Very cool dude!
What impresses me most is how the suction discs seal well enough around/across the brick joints!
What was the seal material, silicone?
Did the councelor acknowledge your achievement?

Thank you for sharing that!

Haha it was actually door jam seal. Like the stuff at Walmart to fix a drafty door.
And begrudgingly, yes.

Very impressive, and especially so that you trusted you work enough to climb a wall with it!
How well did you do in the competition?

I notice that he is on belay. Was that forced upon you, or did you want/need the backup?

Personally, I think a rope was a good idea regardless of his confidence.
But then I have fallen off things one too many times.

That is super cool!!! No safety net?? Brave!

Oh, a good idea, no doubt! Just curious if @nick07lee even had the option of trying it without a safety line.

I have made good use of safety lines on several occasions, and there have been a few occasions where I really wished there had been a rope.

I used to install billboard faces for the casinos along the Central City Parkway portion of Peak To Peak Hwy. They swayed and shook, and occasionally bolts would fall out. Falling off the near end was about a 10-20 foot fall to pavement (and traffic). Falling off the far end of some of them was a couple hundred feet down into the canyon. We did these in winter when the wind could gust well above 60.

We clipped on for sure!

I had to hike down a few times to retrieve stuff that the wind stole from us. That wasn’t ever fun.

That catwalk is huge with a capital, UGE!
Not that I care to do it now but I remember walking the top of a 2x6 wall 36+ feet off the ground back when I was building houses. Once I fell, fortunately to the floor on the inside only 8 ft and jumped back up within seconds.
We had a crane on the clock and i wasn’t about to be the person holding it up.

If we were ever going high enough to think of hurting ourselves, we were on belay. Always.

One of those pictures you won’t see a rope or harness. That’s because I’m about 4in off the ground and not going anywhere. It was the first time we tried the whole thing out and just wanted to see it work.

And we did really well in the competition. We beat all the other methods presented. And Well enough for one of my friends to make a full time job out of the project for a summer and a bit. But what they really wanted was a silent accenting method. And the vacuums will never be quiet enough for what they want.

I would quote people in my response. But I’m on my phone…

You can quote from your phone…I do it all the time…just hold your finger on the part you want quoted until you get a copy pop up…then select the part to quote…then a quote things pops up… At least on my android…

Takes a bit of finessing…

Oh totally. I was at a minor league baseball game and it was between innings. My attention was limited.

Haha so perhaps it was a poor excuse.

My daughter paints shoes as a side job. Mostly for weddings. With finishing up with school and preparing for a move, she got behind and asked me to help out.
I got to do Kingpin and Gambit…not my usual type of art, but I think I did OK…

I can relate! As I’ve mentioned before I work in events and festivals. I’ve built and climbed countless stage sets and outdoor festival sets. Not all are equal! Mostly it’s black steel truss + Layher scaffolding and maybe some aluminium truss. But some are just wood and nails! And a safety line is not mandatory …
