Simple Greek Key File Box

Made this as one of my first projects to test out box joints on medium draftboard while waiting for better materials to be delivered. Each side was cut into two pieces, the top one stained, and then glued back together.

It turned out great! What did you use to stain the draftboard? I’ve never had much luck making it look good. (Not that I have put a terrible lot of effort into it either)

Two liberal coats of Varathane dark walnut oil based stain. As the stain was absorbed I had to keep touching up different areas to make sure it looked even.

I hate working in draftboard now but love your tiny fingerwork. It will look fantastic in the mixed woods like that.

Well done! especially for a test - my tests were not nearly that attractive.

Very nice but must have been a bugger to glue up.

Nice work! This type of thing has been on my agenda for a long time. Still haven’t made a tray yet.

Check out @evansd 's work on kerf adjusted trays. Stunning stuff.
Just one: Swirlend tray
