Simple twist attachment for vent pipe?

About to add a simple twist locking mechanism to my exhaust vent. Location of my machine means I have to detach it every time I leave the house. I have a simple clamp that holds it onto the back of them achine but I’d like to use something simpler.

I already have a simple design in mind - and I’ll simply cut the existing hose a couple of inches from the machine and install it there. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar. I want to use stuff strictly cut on the machine, not go out buying stuff…

Hm I know people have done it with magnets for sure.

I was considering that, but given the power of the built-in fan (I don’t bother setting it to off now) the air pressure is enough to hold any simple twist mechanism in place…

I’m just going to plow ahead… I have plenty of scrap material, some awful 1/4 MDF that I can cut reliably for stuff like this.

The only one I know of is the V8 bottle that (I believe) @rbtdanforth found to work perfectly.

Duh! Should’ve had a V8!

Here’s an interesting solution if you have access to a 3D printer. It might even be a design you could adapt to the laser:

How many years now? And the bottle slice is still working great! Very easy off and on.

That’s kind of what I have in mind, and I have 3 3d-printers, but want to use the GF and I’ve pretty much got it nailed down. Letting glue cure. I want a twist-on solution because I let the built-in exhaust fan do it’s thing in addition to the external fan, and it pushes so hard I need a mechanical locking mechanism.

I’d like to see it when you get it finished.

Almost completed. Just cut the parts for the exhaust vent on the back of the machine, and glued them on. It’s really simple and I think it will work…

Well, V.1 failed. The concept is sound but the material I chose for the “pipe extention” is not suitable, or at least the glue I used isn’t. Going to cobble it back together with a different adhesive and regardless of how it looks, if it works, it’ll be fine until such time it fails and I can quickly reproduce it. I’m going cow-sitting this weekend so won’t get back to it for a while. They made me promise not to eat the cow - but they did name him Sir Loin (I’m not kidding…)

With a name like that I’m gonna presume it’s don’t eat him yet

I love that name  We fatten a beef every year, and every year name it but never thought of this one!!

Years ago my buddy was having dinner over a friendly family’s place and when he complimented the Mrs “dinner tastes really good” she started to cry. He was so confused until mr pointed to the dinner plate and said “Dinner.”
Now to back up a not quite a year prior: my brother was also friend with the boys at this mini homesteading house. Chickens to eat all the Lyme disease bearing insects. And if you have chickens, one might as well eat the eggs and on occasion, have someone process some of the birds. There were goats, and a horse, and barn cats and one bull. Of course the bill needed a name. So my brother spit out instantly the name “dinner.” And it stuck.
My poor, unfortunately word choiced friend.

My cousins lived on a dairy farm when I was growing up. We named all the animals and it wasn’t strange to be having Bessie burgers or Piglet bacon when their time came.

We raised our children to understand these are facts of life…food chain. They loved our animals but realized ‘some’ would be harvested.

I forget the exact words, but I was talking with my ex-BIL and his GF on speaker yesterday and when I assured her I wouldn’t be eating the cow as I know there is an Ingles in the closest town, he said that darn steer would out-live him…

I will only eat fresh local eggs for myself, I only buy generic store ones when I need a few for a dish for others.

This weekend is going to be hard - when I/we go on vacation, it’s an adventure. If we don’t put 1000 miles on a rental car in a week, we feel we wasted out time (excepion - we did dude ranches where we were on horseback or fly-fishing all week…)

Sir Loin du Beof was a famous SCA king as I recall. Was only Loin Du Beof until; he was knighted.

I know you don’t want to buy anything. I use this. You could probably make something similar to this (maybe there is a 3D print design out there for one, too)

They bought a heifer to keep him company. I suggested they name her “tender loin” but they have gone in a different direction.

What’s really funny is they sent me this for taking care of “Sir” for a few days…
