Skull Nightlight

This was drawn in Illustrator and then extruded in Fusion.

The face/eyes/nose/teeth were made on the Glowy. The housing was 3D printed. I ordered some addressable LEDs and an ESP32. But we are currently under about a mountain of snow and it didn’t arrive in time. So the lights are classic Walmart Monster Brand LED strip lights.

You can see videos of this in action on Instagram @Sticker_trash.

(I don’t know if I’m allowed to plug my insta. But I’m willing to not if it’s a problem. I don’t sell anything, I just make stuff.)

Edit: I’ve added pictures of the packaging I made for it. This project is going to a new home.

Cool project. How would it have been different with an esp32 and leds? Like what was your vision?

I would just have better control over the lights. I could potentially light up just the eyes or back of the skull. The Monster LEDs aren’t bad, but I didn’t solder anything on this project and that upsets me greatly.

How hard would it be to disassemble and retrofit the internals? FastLED would give you lots of options.

Very hard. I used the same amount of hot glue that it would have taken to keep my parent’s marriage together. I have used FastLED on several projects. And I love it.

Do you know the isopropyl trick to remove hot glue?

It might be easier than you think, Hot glue pops right off with a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol.

That’s neat!

No problem at all linking your Insta. You can also add it to your profile so anytime someone clicks on your icon it’ll be right there
