Slate coasters- spray paint first

I made this Lighthouse slate coaster.

I sprayed with 2x Rustoleum black spray paint before engraving.

Thanks for the photo and for sharing your interesting result. I don’t know that anyone else has painted slate before engraving. I hope you will share more of your projects in the future.

Spray paint, engrave, and then clear coat.

That turned out great. I like the way the background is lighter around the lighthouse.

Are the black areas what was engraved, or the white (well, lighter) areas?

Way to go! That turned out really well.

Personally, I would less inclined to engrave over the paint because of fumes, but that’s just me. With proper ventilation I would hope the risk is mitigated.
