Here is a slate cheeseboard (from Target) that I made up for some friends of mine who were just married.
Speed 905, Power 30, 340 DPI.
No oil or other prep.

Very Nice! I’ve found that mineral oil can give the slate engraving more contrast, but it can always be applied later on.

Very nice! I’m a big fan of the way slate looks once it’s engraved. Have you tried to oil slate first before you engrave?
