Stair vacuuming robot - No sign of uprising so far…

First full-up test of my stair vacuuming robot. Interesting project, involving my Glowforge plus 3dprinting, robotics, and some light programming. Still needs some tweaks, but I’m happy with this first test!

Goofy soundtrack is better than listening to the howl of the vacuum cleaner at the top of the stairs.

This little project is one reason I’ve been scarce for the past month or so. Heavy-lifting is done (in more ways than one :innocent:), so more time for GF projects and designs.

The hardest part of the whole project was designing the vacuum plenum(?) – I’m not a fan of Onshape, but it has (perhaps) the most accessible loft and shell functionality of any freemium CAD package I’m aware of. Splitting the plenum into printable components was another learning experience.

Whew!

Cool! Do you have to put it on each step though?

At this point, yes. Later version may have a way to descend— still pondering how that might work. Still beats hand-vacuuming every stair.

Neat project! Stairs are always a dreaded project.

Yep. I don’t do my stairs often enough. Mine are wood, but we had to put little carpet treads on them because our older dog was having great difficulty going up and down. And I just use my cordless Kobalt vac to do them. Still a pain though.

Wow, cool project! Can’t wait to see version 2.0 (step down version).

Glad I still have the youngest around for the stairs. I’m sure they will not be done much once she leaves.
