Teacher Gifts (2024)

It is that time of year again! My wife asks me, “What are we giving the teachers this year?” I was taken by surprise by this question; she is the one that comes up with the ideas, I just make it happen.

We discussed what materials we had available and what we had already given in the past (no repeats, apparently). We decided on coasters! I was happy because I can throw those together pretty quick.

But my wife wanted one special one, because this teacher is taking a job at a different school next year. She will be greatly missed and was one of our favorite teachers. At least our daughter had her this year, so she gets a gift!

All the other teachers got a coaster with the school name across the top, the mascot in the middle, and their name customized across the bottom.

They were made with thick green-glass acrylic and they look amazing (if I do say so myself). I hope the kids can deliver them without getting them all smudged… (I had to wipe off a lot of figure prints already because they wanted to help take off the masking.)

I have been playing with a new 3D printer since Christmas, and I almost forgot how much I love my Glowforge. This machine is really amazing at creating amazing quality gifts!

Wonderful coasters! I am trying to figure out what that gift will be this year. And our principal is retiring.

Now that is one useful gift the teachers can really use, either at their school desk or at home. Very thoughtful. You could even make them larger to put a plant on.

Mrs. James is the principle of the elementary school. When we decided to go with coasters this year, my wife wanted to include her also.

I measured some other coasters we had to get the size. They are bigger than I thought. The circles have a diameter of 4.5" and square was 4.25"; when my wife saw them she said, “Wow, those are big.” I replied that “they are the same size as our coasters.” Apparently, being clear thick acrylic makes them look bigger.

These look great! It is very difficult to come up with new things each year.

I agree, it is one of my favorite mediums to work with.

Wow… shows how much I know… My wife just informed me that she wanted to make one for Mrs. James this year because she is retiring and this is her last year too. (I had no idea.)
