The Boom Tube

Oh look, more blinky stuff. This one is wood and acrylic with a pre-made LED strip that responds to sounds. It’s the usual infinity setup: a mirror in the back, one-way mirror in the front, with a piece of clear thick acrylic over it to protect it from prying fingers. The cylinder is just a circular living hinge sort of thing and I used thick acrylic to hold it all together.

Here’s what it looks like playing along with some music:

If you are interested in CNC, I posted a build video of a CNC version here:

I am afraid the boom tube is an instrument of violence.

You can adjust the input volume, but it’s always difficult to get a consistent response with lower volumes. I know @evansd2 was making some noise about a multi-microphone solution to this. I am hoping he comes back to it, because his early experiments were amazing.

Like buying you kid a drum set. Not the thing most parents would do (unless your kid is living with your ex…)

But possibly the grandkids.

My paternal grandmother always got us 3 boys that years Hess truck with batteries. Dad was often heard saying “thanks mom….” at Christmas.
