That’s exactly the one I was looking at.
Another planned purchase: a proper resaw blade for my bandsaw. I’m sure the proofgrade stuff will be lovely, but I’m guessing my wallet will appreciate me starting from lumber instead.

I probably need more than one pair. My friends will want to see the show too 
I bought a small well-used bandsaw at a yard sale a bit back and now I want a real bandsaw with more power and better everything. It is one of those tools that has me saying “why didn’t I buy one much earlier instead of this or that, that mostly sits unused?”

If you resaw, even with the fancy Woodslicer or Timberwolf blades, remember that you’re going to have to sand or plane the surface in a serious way to get it smooth. (For some things I like the bandsawn texture, but it’s not for everyone. And also the resaw fence, and maybe a log sled…
But it really is cool to see this big long narrow piece of wood peeling off.

For straight cuts, it’s hard to beat a table or radial arm saw with a good blade like a Forrester II. I don’t even need to plane or sand cuts from that blade with my radial. For more complicated cuts a bandsaw is the way to go, but a good blade is worth its weight in gold. - Rich

I’m going to be milling my own wood, but I expect it won’t be lots of it. My home made 16" can do it, but starting from logs is a long term project. Most of mine will be resawing some wide oak and walnut that is already dry and I want to book match or veneer. It will be a learning experience.

Hello, Him indoors here, had to push her off the keyboard. It’s freaking awesome. Unlike the Alaskan mill, you can quartersaw with it and it is really accurate as long as you set it right, you can cut ridiculous bits of wood. With the rails I have i can cut 42" x 27’ planks with an accuracy of about 1/16". My one regret is that I got a 3120 (Husqvarna) with a Sugihara bar. With the benefit of hindsight, might have gone for the Stihl 880 (and I’m a huge Huskie fan).
Of course, cutting is only one small part of producing quality plank and beams, but I fear stepping into the realms of “teaching my Grand-mother to suck eggs”.
The one thing I will say is that once you start cutting your own, there is no going back, it’s really addictive.

Oh, and use Skip-ripping chains, cuts better, and puts less strain on your saw ( again, Grand mothers and eggs).

From what I see of Matt Cremona, it’s a gateway drug to getting a full size bandmill.
I’ve thought of it but I have no building to dry wood and can’t get to the stuff I already have milled.
Doing slabs for tables and benches though would be amazing. There always seems to be logs waiting to be worked on. It just gets pushed into piles and burned around here. You do have me thinking now.

Yes. the first project to build with my mill will be a solar kiln.
Yes, a solar kiln is on the wish list, too. Again, no room for it on this property.

My brother and I talked about getting an Alaska mill years ago but never got around to it. Now I’m holding out for something more like this.
