My tortoise, Tungsten, is still enjoying his winter hibernation in the garage. But he should be up and about in the next few weeks. So, I’m sprucing up his outdoor area for his return during the Spring and Summer months. I made this zoo-like sign with Proofgrade maple hardwood on the GF to warn guests not to mess with him.
Great work. I was reading it and I was like, Californian Desert Turtles can leap 35 feet? Was getting ready to fire up wikipedia to investigate, when I read the next line. Well done!
While I’ve never seen him leap—or even break into a trot—it’ll be a great way to know if guests have read the whole sign.
Are you sure it’s not a rabbit?
Killer turtle! Run for your life.
Bring forth the holy hand grenade!
Really nicely executed. Also, great name. Also also, how’d you do your color fill? Looks really nice.
If you zoom in, it looks like they just took a marker to the wood.
The engraved outline keeps it pretty tidy.
I love it!
I doth count to three references to the Rabbit of Caerbannog, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
True any guest laying on the ground choking will have read the whole thing.
great sign.
I sense a whole new version of “The Tortoise and the Hare” in the works…
Sharpie!
Exactly. I used a Sharpie. The elements will inevitably wear this one out. I hope to be sufficiently skilled by the time I’m ready for the second version to do inlay.
Love it. Very well done.
Acrylic should hold up pretty well to elements…
Do you have a safe room
Lacquer it all up and it should handle the weather.
Even the sharpie will get sealed in.
Preventing Sun Fading will require a well placed angle or overhang though.
All lacquered up. Great idea. Thanks!
Wonderful sign and sense of humor.
