I got invited to do an art show in October. In addition to showing my polyhedrals, I’ll be selling laser engraved cutting boards and tumblers. I need a way to display the tumblers and water bottles, so I designed this 3 tier display stand. I used 6 sheets of 1/8" MDF. I have 3 different designs for the front panels. Happy with the results.
Oooh this is going to make a great display. Love that the risers are high enough you can see all the designs.
Very nice! I’ll have to tell my daughter about this for her shop, as she does lots of tumblers, and has a laser!
The only problem I see is that those tumblers are blocking my view of that beautiful design!
This!, but as they are sold the design will be revealed.
A beautiful product. I love all three designs you worked up. They’re awesome.
In addition to the good project, it’s also an impressive job on the instructions. Care to share what software you used for that?
I use Fusion 360 to create the 3D assembly. Images, but Adobe Illustrator to add the text.
No surprise that you created such intriguing artwork, great work as per usual. The best part about having laser made stands is that it shows the versatility of what can be done, though, standing next to one of your polyhedrals, I’m sure people will be busy looking at them more than what’s holding up the tumblers!
Had you considered having the shelves be indented? Of course the more minimalistic design of the tumblers standing on their own, as well as the materials saving is probably pretty attractive, but sometimes people have clumsy hands and knock things over by accident. Not a critique, just wondering if it had crossed your mind!
When designing the stand. I was thinking more of maximizing the design to use as much material as possible using 1/8-inch material, while still having it structurally solid. I could have used 1/4-in, And made it a little bit more sturdy, but using 1/8 in MDF is obviously cheaper considering I might have to make multiples. It is six sheets of material, but the sides and the shelf SVG are both 10.86" in height, making it pretty close to the maximum cut range of the glow forge. I added the geometric design to the front panel to give my shelves a little bit of a different aesthetic than other ones you’d find online, as you can always print the shelves without using the design, or add your own. Also being able to sell the file was in the back of my mind, and making assembly easy and straightforward. Now that it’s finished, and if I had to make any changes. I might look into making the shelves indented a little bit to help structurally. Right now it holds all those tumblers without any flexing of the shelves, but if you were to put heavier stuff on there it might. I could also solve that with an additional cross piece at the back of each shelf. But again I’m happy with the result, and it should work fine for displaying tumblers at the art show. Having a tent means limited space, so things like this will help display more items in a smaller space on the tables that I have, and hopefully make it look more professional. I’ve never done one of these so, I’m probably overthinking it.
Ah, of course, I had actually meant indented for the tumblers themselves, just for them to have a place to sit, like a cup holder. But everything you talked about makes sense, so I get it!
