Using other platforms for Glowforge

Hello all! So for, with my schools Glowforge Pro, we have used Adobe Illustrator (.svg) and Word PDF files. However, what else is out there to use?

If you look in the tutorials you will see a wealth of information about applications. Pretty much anything that can generate appropriate SVG files (or PDFs) can be used. My most common workflow is to start in CAD (OnShape but many use Fusion360) and then export a DXF file which I bring into Illustrator and cleanup/enhance (things like Text are terrible in CAD) and then send to the laser.

What is it you’d like to do that you’re unable to do with the apps you’ve listed? Every app has its advantages and disadvantages, so…

Currently the Glowforge recognizes the following file types:

SVG
PDF
JPG
PNG

But you can use a lot of different programs to create them. (Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape, GIMP, CorelDRAW, Affinity Designer)
