Veggie and flower … things

I just finished (mostly) this project, now not sure what to do with these things. I might put pin backs on the backsides (would you wear something like this on your sweater or blazer?).

The images were taken from a book of clip art I’ve had for about 20 years. Engraved and cut them from Canson watercolor artboard; it’s about 1/16” thick. Then I watercolored and sealed them. The wooden backings were cut from 1/8” padauk, and each design was deep engraved in the padauk so I could snap the watercolored pieces in place. I finished the padauk with Danish oil finish.

I did the watercolor art board parts in my Aura and the wood parts in my Glowforge Pro. I could have done the whole thing in the Aura (or the Pro for that matter) but I like to do the dirtier jobs in the Pro—it handles the resinous red dust of the padauk better.

Forgot to include a banana for scale, but the carrot bunch is about 2 inches tall.

Those are beautifully done! I wouldn’t wear one as a pin (though I imagine some would) but I’d happily put them on my fridge as magnets

what @deirdrebeth said. these would work really well as fridge magnets for someone who’s a gardener.

@cynd11 they are beautiful. The watercolor painting is so realistic. When I first saw them before reading your post, the first thing I thought they were fridge magnets. Just glue some magnet sheet on the back.

I wouldn´t wear them, but then again, I don´t even wear jewelry, wedding band or wristwatch.

These are so beautifully painted! I love the peony, especially. It’s not something I would wear personally…but, as others said, someone who loves gardening would…or even enjoy in another form like a magnet. I love your trajectory with that project.

The fridge magnet idea never even crossed my mind, but it’s brilliant! Thanks!

My wife and daughter have lots of pins (& patches) on denim jackets they have just for that purpose. My daughter also puts them on her backpack so maybe both pins & magnets.

These are absolutely beautiful.

Nor I. I tend to forget that I have the pins on and then go riding the Harley. That is how I lost my treasured “Wonka Golden Ticket” lapel pin.

You could always check the horticulture convention calendar

I bet they would definitely be your target market and wear them, maybe even comission a special order. Just saying…

Nice idea! I actually wasn’t making them to sell, though. Not sure the clip art I used would allow that. Just having fun!

I love the painting and the details - really beautiful!
I know due to poky bits they need to have a backing, but I think my eye would prefer a square/rectangle/circle/oval shape for the background. The irregular shape of the background distracts me from the lovely shape and painting of the flowers/fruits/veg.

Good to know, thanks!

and i actually prefer the “organic” shapes for the backing. organic matter on organic shapes, feels more relatable to me.

These are beautiful! I don’t wear pins, but they’d be well loved as magnets.
