Has anyone made wedding invitations on Sapele 1/8”? Any suggestions you can offer? TIA

Are they precut? Sapele is very difficult to cut with the laser, it chars a great deal.
If they’re precut and you just want to engrave them it’ll come out nicely, Sapele engraves nicely, very dark. You’ll want to use a jig to align the precut invitations.
The bottom line for me is that I’d avoid trying to cut Sapele. I’ve had nothing but trouble with it. Engraving would be fine — time consuming, but fine.

I got a set of slate coasters. Unfortunately slate’s a pretty analog material, and each square was very slightly different. Under normal circumstances, this would not be an issue, as the differences were very small… but these are to be a matched tiling set, and so alignment was crucial.
The way I solved for it was to make a “consumable” jig.
Carefully measure your coaster: length, width and height. Be sure to mark the bottom somehow so you know your orientation later.

Would another type of wood be recommended? such as cherry? I am desiring a dark pretty wood.

Cherry and most varieties of mahogany cut really well. They both engrave really well but mahogany will engrave the darker of the two.
Here’s a mahogany example:

I got a commission for a D&D-themed calendar, specifically the calendar of Harptos.
Some notes:
The calendar needed to be legible from across the table.
The design needed to be “aesthetically pleasing”.
The calendar needed to be durable enough to travel and relatively compact.
With that in mind, I started thinking about the design. I found inspiration on the web in other cube-based calendar designs, but my challen…
Here’s a Cherry example.
One of my co-workers was getting married last year and she wanted to have some wood invites made from some of the trees on her farm. She designed these beautiful invites and her husband prepared all the wood blanks. I had the easy job of engraving them all.
I think the hardest part was keeping them from wrapping since they weren’t completely dry yet.
i had a few of the curl up while engraving.
I really love when something i work on gets submitted for awards because i get some really nice phot…
Lots of places to get 1/8” wood, ocooch hardwoods is a well respected site and is priced well.
