What multi devices do you own?

Hmm … wondering if my Underwood typewriter should be on my list. :grinning:

Back in the day it was the best 3D printer in existance. I did have a 3’ dia computer disk that I used as a table. But it was older tech.

I learned to type on an old Royal typewriter of my Dad’s when I was 9 or 10. When I was in 7th grade, I took a typing class in summer school (I didn’t have to go, but many of my friends did have to, so I went just because it gave me something to do). I could type 70 wpm on it. Then in high school I got up to 90wpm. A boy sitting in front of me asked the teacher if he could move to the other side of the room because the noise of me typing so fast (for the class anyway) was driving him crazy. As if all the clicking from everyone else didn’t make it noisy!

Then came the IBM Selectric typewriters and I got up to 120wpm, fast enough to make the little ball jam up because it couldn’t keep up, which I found was rather funny. By then I was working for the school district and we thought something was wrong with the typewriter. They called a repairman, who couldn’t find anything wrong with it, and asked me to type so he could see what was happening. He’s the one who told them I was out-typing the ability of the ball to spin that fast and that I just needed to type slower.

I do miss the sound of the old manual typewriters. The clicking of the keys (but not the broken nails from hitting them!), the bell as you got to the edge of the page, the satisfying sound of hitting the little bar to make the page go down to the next line… I may have to find an old one somewhere.

Glowforge Plus
Snapmaker A350T 3 in 1: 3D Printer, Laser & CNC, using only the 3D printer to date
BambuLab P1S 3D Printer
Silver Bullet 13" cutter.

We use the Glowforge for anything from engraving wooden plaques and cork to cutting fabric. It is terrific for applique quilting. The current project is a two-layer applique from Pacific Rim Quilt Company, using the score setting to “trace” the pattern on the background fabric and cutting the top layer and fusible fabric. We have also recently made rubber stamps for a letterbox geocache project.

The Silver Bullet was retired since we bought the Glowforge. We used it to It is lightly used and for sale if anyone is interested. Works well with vinyl which is not recommended for laser cutting.

The Snapmaker is built like a tank and has a bigger than average bed. It is slow by today’s standards, but works great. If you need a one-color printer (dual color head is a $400 add on) that will print something a up to a foot square, this is a good choice.

The Bambu Lab P1S new, multi-color capable and really fast. It will see the majority of our 3D printing going forward.

Perhaps you can show off some of the best work your folks create. Even make it a contest?

I have a Cricut Maker, a 20W diode laser and a very small resin 3D printer. The GF is by far my favourite. It cuts much more quickly than the . I like the engraving on the diode better BUT it is a pain in the butt to set up because I don’t have a dedicated spot for it/a means to direct smoke out of my house so I have to use it outside. I can protype things so quickly with the laser. I use it mainly for miniatures and props.

The resin 3D printer is great for making very tiny, very detailed things but it takes a long time, creates a lot of garbage and involves working with toxins so PPE is required.

If I had to choose one tool to keep and get rid of the rest, I would keep the GF for sure.

Scoring fabric for detail placement and cutting detailed pieces is such a great use of the GF and one that is often overlooked. I love it for that.

You can import your Cricut SVG files into the Glowforge GFUI as well.
