Oh man - I saw a video on that where they talked about how it finely it removes stuff - the reason the drop down items sink so slowly is because the air is literally trapped because the variance is so small

This is typically done via wire edm. Two separate parts because there is indeed a kerf. Same way we do wood inlays with the Glowforge, except WAY MORE PRECISE.
