I made 4 custom boxes to house custom engraved whiskey stones as gifts for some friends who are visiting in a few weeks. Basically a Proofgrade box inside another tabbed Padauk box. Nothing fancy, and created using an online box generator and customized in Illustrator. The stones were engraved on a Mira 9, but the box was cut on the Glowforge. Still need to apply some oil, but happy how they turned out.
That’s a lovely, thoughtful gift. I’m sure they will love it.
What are whiskey stones? ice substitutes to cool the spirit without diluting it?
That turned out great! Nice job!
Funny.. I never thought to try engraving on my whisky stones..
What do they look like when wet?
Yes!
They look darker, but still can see engraving. I orinally was going to use my galvo laser, as that does a much better job on stone, but my EMP is having issues right now, so the Mira 9 worked just fine. For these, if you want to use your
, you’ll have to take the tray out. Here are a couple dry stones next to a couple wet ones.
Since getting a laser, I’m confident this is the only thing I think about when looking at anything. “Hey, look at that funny thing-a-ma-bob. Will it laser?”
“Will it blend” ? ![]()
Came out really nice! Add me to the list of folks that knew nothing about whiskey stones, let alone the possibility of engraving them. A new industry is born!
Wait…. You’ve had your machine nearly as long as I have. You don’t look at… EVERYTHING and think… “Can I laser that?” ![]()
Quite lovely!
Just like when you have a hammer in your hand, everything looks like a nail….
Got to love a good box
Looks great… still amazed at not having heard of whiskey stones before.
Amateur… ![]()
LOL, I have spherical ice cubes for my bourbon drinking. ![]()
You know a sphere is not a cube, right? Let me pour you another (I am a professional!)
As someone who likes their ice to melt, I was not the target audience for the stones (though I did try them!) OTOH I adore my giant spheres and trapezoidal cylinders ![]()
