I’m curious why it says not to plug into a surge protector or power strip?

Plug it in at your own risk. If you do you’ll be like most here who have done just that

We are told that the Glowforge has a built in power protection method.
This was discussed before – something about the way that surge protectors work, if you daisy chain them it can cause problems where they fail. It’s not a GF thing, it’s a surge suppressor thing. Since the GF has internal suppression, plugging it into an external suppressor is effectively daisy chaining.
