I’ve seen lots of videos on how to use the passthrough, but as I tried to use it, there were brackets blocking the slots which is never mentioned in the videos. Not sure if there was a tutorial that I missed. Obviously I need to remove the brackets/shield, but wanted to see if anyone can confirm or direct me to the rights info.

Yes, in order to use the pass through you must remove the shields so that you have access to the slots.
