3d printing hobby

It’s funny, I can’t draw anything. At all. Like it almost defies belief how incompetent I am. But 3D CAD, I picked up very quickly and really enjoy it. It must use a different part of the brain, one that I’m not missing for a change.

I’ve started watching these speed modeling tournaments online. It’s fascinating seeing two experts competing for speed and accuracy, especially when they’re using different software.

I could have written that if I were any good with words. Has to use another part of the brain.

@trually I voluteer as well but @pubultrastar is probably (almost certainly) better at it than me. I do tend to be pretty good at teaching what I am competent with though.

I have the thing. I need to clean my kitchen.

We should do a group design or we could meet for an online group learn and share.

That’s a great idea!

Why not both?

Please message me your email addresses and I’ll invite you!

BTW, I just ordered some sunlu wood filament. It should be here tomorrow early morning. I found a couple of things for around our home in Maker World that I want to try.

I think last time it was only you and me that showed up!

Three are serveral of us using F360 @trually so don’t be shy asking if you go that route. This guy is an excellent teacher too

Well, I think we were discussing how to make polyhedral connectors. Maybe we can focus on designing things to export for the laser. I am always willing to show how I’ve done any of my designs. Slicer is also really fun to play with. Gridfinity. SVG Import. Using the mesh tab. So many options. Intro tips and tricks for 3d modeling might be a good start.

I need to make a bunch of gridfinity bins for the top drawer of my Husky GF table.

(I’ll prob try to make a few generic ones and then clean out my drawer later and make some tool-specific bins like one for my calipers, mini heat gun, etc.)

I’ve tried a couple of times to get F360 working for me, and never succeeded. Every video I’ve found tells me to click on things I don’t have. So if you do this at a time I can come, I’d definitely be interested!

I don’t think I have ever seen the 0.2 available in hardened steel.

Snapmaker has them. I’ve got a 4-pack coming in next week for the U1. Not sure if they’d fit on any other machine though.

My H2C is down at the moment…

I had my first nozzle “blob” with it. It paused the print when it went to change nozzles. It looks like it was not able to successfully get the nozzle off.

I created a support ticket with BambuLab and now I am just waiting to hear how to proceed. I don’t want to make things worse or break anything.

This will pause my creation of Star Wars helmets…

These have been so much fun! I am so happy to have a “Helmet Class” printer! I have been donating them for auctions and giving them as gifts. The only one we still have in the house is the Stormtrooper helmet I gave to my son.

Such fun! Happy creating everyone!

So far I have made:

  • 3 Stormtrooper
    • First - gave to my son
    • Second - gave to my nephew for his birthday
    • Third - was being finished by the print that failed…
  • 2 Scout Trooper
    • First - gave to a friend who requested it (for Christmas)
    • Second - donated to my son’s robotics team for a fund raiser
  • 1 Phase II ARC Trooper
    • Given to a coworker that is retiring for his son
  • 2 Tie Fighter Pilot
    • First - given to a coworker that is retiring (for him)
    • Second - donated to my son’s robotics team for a fund raiser

Before that, I was able to make some smaller helmets on my X1C:

  • Mandalorian (Din Djarin)
  • Heavy Mandalorian (Paz Vizsla)
  • Moff Gideon’s modified trooper helmet

Found a photo of the helmets I gave to my coworker before he retired.

(Left - Tie Fighter, Right - Phase II ARC)

I think the Tie Fighter helmet might be my favorite. It’s “mask” is held on by magnets, making it easy to put on and take off.
