I need to fit acrylic into door signs that were ordered. The acrylic that is 1/16 is a bit too thick and I ordered 1/32 2 ply acrylic but it’s not engraving well (spotty). Is there a way to file down/sand the acrylic that is 1/16 so it will fit? It engraves perfect - smokey hills acrylic.
Yes but the field/sanded section will be hazy unless you go to extreme sanding grits and polish.
For some uses (like if it’s just a border frame) you can also use the GF to engrave a border to get rid of some thickness. The hazy acrylic would be covered by the frame. You’ll need to experiment a bit with the settings to get the right resulting thickness but it’s pretty quick.
I do this for LED lighted signs using LED menu bases - the slot is too thin for qtr inch acrylic and too loose for eighth inch. I engrave a bottom band just tall enough to fit into the slot and not show above the base.
I love your suggestion - won’t work in this instance - but probably in the future!
I have used 1355 LPI on acrylic that will leave a clear surface on a complex design but might take a very long time. My first thought however would be that if you cannot raise the bridge, then lower the water. Can you enlarge the hole in the door signs?
