Happy Independence Day!
… wood mosaic, layered, ~ 70 pieces, 22" wide.
Some of the pieces are in their natural color. Others were colored with gel stains.
It has lots of flaws which I won’t mention, but one thing I really like is the way it glows in a dim room. It looks something like this:
One thing I’d do differently would be to make it much larger, to allow for the use of more prominent wood grain without overpowering the composition.
Beautiful composition. The piece sings to a person like me raised among the amber waves of grain.
Looks great
Lovely work. Captures the beauty both natural and figurative
This is beautiful. I’m loving the purple mountains and the spacious skies.
@Purplie, your creations never disappoint.
That looks amazing!
It’s gorgeous, and so timely!
Talk about purple mountains magesty! Gorgeous.
How big is it?
Midsized. around 22" with the frame.
The frame, btw, was super easy— lengths of oak 1x1 lumber lightly sanded and simply glued onto the mosaic’s backing board.
Oh this is stunning…I love it.
Very nicely done. great color and composition
Beautifully done … and the frame is just right!
That is very nice!
Oh, that’s smart. And it looks great!
Really gorgeous! Love!
That is stunning. Nice work!
This is really phenomenal! Thank you for sharing!
Oh wow, that’s stunning! It belongs in an art museum!
I think it would be very worthwhile to try scaling it up!
Thanks everybody for all the kind support!
Honestly, I wasn’t even sure about posting this one, because I think the composition is too unpolished. But I was really motivated to share a different view of patriotism this 4th of July, one that emphasizes love and appreciation rather than politics.
And the song, of course, is beautiful. I’m thinking of revisiting it next year and trying to represent all the verses in a 4-panel set.
