I am trying to print a design on precut cork coasters. I have used the technique of scoring a piece of paper (held to the honeycomb with magnets) with the outline of the coasters, then placing the coasters on the pattern to line everything up. But then, during printing, the app ‘adjusts’ the alignment of my artwork for the engrave and screws up all the alignment. Is there anyway to disable the auto-realign during the print process? This not-so-smart software is trying to help me and only wasting LOTS of material. It is infuriating.
Always set focus before placing your artwork. The camera view adjusts at that time, and there will be no adjustment when you hit print. For precise alignment, make a jig - the circular outline of your coaster and the artwork are aligned in the same file so it is always accurately aligned. You cut the circle out of paper/cardboard/construction paper and ignore the artwork. Without moving anything, place your coaster in the circular cutout. Set focus on the coaster but ignore the camera view. Engrave the design and ignore the cut for the circle.
The app never changes the location of the artwork. The camera is not designed for precision placement – it is spec’d to 1/4 inch.
If you follow the instructions that have been posted here many times, particularly if you use a jig, then machine will print in the exact same spot every time.
Thank you both. My Glowforge is in a different room from the computer and I was relying on autofocus, which was probably focusing between my coasters.
Once I figured that out and began forcing a focus on the cork, things got MUCH better.
Apologies to Glowforge for disparaging the software for a pilot error.
