Black Cable Clip Problems

I was using my glowforge for an order that I have engraving on whiteboard. It is a very simple design that allows kids to color on the board. I completed 9 of them and then the scanning wheel wasnt stopping. I turned it off and back, closed the program and restarted. Then I got an error message that the camera wasnt working. I watched the video explaining how to check the cable connections. At first they wouldnt move to slide out because they were glued to close to the clips. I needed to get this order done so I tried a few times and after the last time the lights on the right side didnt come on. I took a picture at what looks like a burn mark on the clip. This is a refurbished unit that I had to pay for because my warranty had expired. I have had nothing but problems since purchasing my laser, I dont understand how something so expensive isnt more reliable. While I wait for customer service to help me, has anyone dealt with something like this? Should I just order a cable?

I am sorry to say that the cable will not fix your problem. There was a short across the connection and the electronics at that point are fried.

Glowforge sells the LED strips the cable is going into as spare parts:

I would suggest you open a support ticket, attach your photos, and see if tech support recommends replacing the strip.

Any chance you moved this connection with the machine powered on? It looks like the circuit board has shorted out.
Definitely wait for support.

No, I definitely didnt do that with the machine on. Do you know if support is available over the weekend?

In a more limited capacity than during the work week. Live phone and chat support are only Monday to Friday, but they do respond to tickets/emails over the weekend. No guarantee they’ll get to yours of course.

I’ll just add that the contacts on the cable are tiny and very close together. The cable ends have to seat in the sockets absolutely square. The slightest misalignment will short.

For something so delicate, I wish there was a way they can make it more user friendly. I couldnt even get the cable out because it was glued all the way to the clip. At the very least they should explain in detail about what can happen if it isnt aligned properly and you turn it on.
