Hello,
I am trying to upload a design and break it apart to score and cut different pieces and then put them back together over my large bottom piece. In GLUI, I can pull apart each piece I want to separate; however, it will not allow me to choose score, cut etc., for that piece, and it is just adding it to the single process as a second piece. Any ideas?
In your design software give each a different color.

Each color will show as a separate operation in the sidebar. You can also reorder which happens first just by dragging them, the top is first, below that is second…
It worked well. Thanks for the replies. My learning curve on Inkscape is more like a spiral. 
It comes quickly after the indoctrination. Enjoy the adventure.
