This dice vault is fundamentally a pretty simple tabbed box, partly created with the generator for Inkscape. The white oak and walnut inlay is similar to some of my previous projects. I glued some of my Celtic key pattern washi tape to the sides with wood glue, and covered it with decoupage sealer (Mod Podge). Covering the legs with gold leaf was fun new thing for me.
I made this for a giveaway on Instagram where Silverleaf Dice is celebrating hitting 2100 followers. She made a matching set of washi tape dice to go with it.
There is an un-narrated 3.5-minute high-speed making-of video:
So awesome. Thank you for the write-up, the images and the video. I just watched a video recently where Adam Savage and some special guests added tungsten to resin dice and they were like super heavy. Get yourself some of those dice for that box
I saw that one! That was Evan and Katelyn with Adam, and I came close to getting some titanium powder after watching it. I was casting dice some last year using Jesmonite (a gypsum-based “eco resin”). The titanium would probably work with that, too.
One thing I liked about lot about this project is that the washi tape layer and the legs gave it a more finished look while it was still an easy-to-make laser-cut tabbed box at the core. I have a couple ideas for doing similar things with future projects.
