So I followed all the instructions to clean the air assist fan on my Pro, everything moves fine, but the laser doesn’t fire. The tube doesn’t light up either. No flashing yellow light comes on,no messages, the machine acts like everything is fine, and it goes through the motions of printing normally, except no laser.
It’s after hours for support, and tomorrow is 4th of July, and I can’t find anything to say whether they will be in the office during the day tomorrow or not. Anybody got any ideas what I might have done wrong?
Welcome to the forum.
When you cleaned the air assist fan did you also clean the inside of the machine? Did you clean the tube?
As a preliminary, did you run the gift of good measure? It’s one of the first things support will have you do.
Also, just in case, make sure the mirror in the head didn’t move. I don’t think it’s a high possibility (not even sure it’s possible), but since the head has to be removed to clean the fan, lift that top with the glowforge symbol and check if your mirror on the blue thing is clean and seated properly.
Hi-
So it turned out that the laser tube electronics had some sort of issue, and the only remedy was sending the machine back for repair. I was given a good deal on a refurbished machine, and basically swapped my old one out. The new (to me) machine is working great.
Hi-
Yes. It turned out that the tube had died and they gave me a good deal on a refurbished machine, swapped it out for the old one, and am up and going again.
For clarity, tubes don’t die suddenly. You had the high voltage red wire short circuit issue. When you clean your machine, you need to give it at least 4 hours, preferable overnight with a fan blowing over it to dry before using it again. High humidity inside makes this short circuit issue more likely as it did to yours. For anybody else seeing this with the same issue, it can be fixed at home for just a few dollars.
