I knew going into it that Sapele is particularly difficult to laser and it produces a lot of char. But I figured I had trouble with Sapele early on and by now I’m better at lasering so I got this, right? Right?
I was wrong. It’s still a nightmare to cut. It’s dirty, it takes multiple passes, it’s inconsistent… But it is really pretty when it’s finished. I like how it turned out but I don’t want to do it again anytime soon.
It’s funny that you mention engraving, next time I’m going to try using an engraved channel to give the char somewhere to go. It’ll take forever but if it gets a better result it might be worth it.
I say that, but we’ll see if I ever get around to it. It really was difficult to work with and I’m not eager to go back. My machine is still filthy.
