December 2025 Update Discussion Thread

Discussing this announcement:

@Dan - It’s really great that the beta testers for this feature have been given Snapmarks back again.
Can we now have a discussion about whether original Glowforge Crowdfunders can also have Snapmarks? I genuinely can’t remember whether I applied to test Snapmarks or whether I had to swerve it due to time constraints but it is a feature I could make use of and I don’t feel I should have to pay to access the level of accuracy that was promised during the original crowdfunding.

I’m not a power glowforge user. I use the machine infrequently due to how much time I need to give other elements of my business but I am a little aggrieved about not having access to this. Is it even possible on the machine I have (It’s an early Pro model).

@Dan thanks you’re update broke my system just before Christmas many projects yet to due…perfect timing

Not picking a fight, but we weren’t crowdfunders. We placed preorders. Our purchase price was refundable at all times and we enjoyed an introductory price offer.

Snapmarks were not promised to any of us - even beta testers. As for the accuracy issue, I believe the improvements that have been made over the years have fulfilled the accuracy promise.

Finally, I believe that at some point we have to stop asking/expecting special perks because of our actions in 2015. We were in a position to buy our machines at an introductory price 10 years ago. That choice does not, in my opinion, entitle us to lifelong special treatment. Many of the current owners have paid more for their machines and would have a reason to question why they continue to be treated differently than the small number of folks who had the economic means to purchase a product 10 years ago. We got the promised discounts and perks. I am grateful.

to be fair, IIRC, even GF called it crowdfunding.

Dan himself called it crowdfunding.

We can both be right. What he called it in 2025 is different than the original offer that we responded to.

He called it crowdfunding multiple times in 2015. There news articles calling it crowdfunding.

to be fair, they also call GF a “3D laser,” so exact terminology is not always their strong point, but they’ve always said crowdfunding.

That’s a bunch of updates! I think the dollar bill is super cute—might be useful for preparing custom “gift cards.” Looking forward to trying the ruler improvements also.

I had Snapmarks. I used them rarely and not recently. But, still, I would like them back. How do I get them back? (And, no, Premium isn’t the answer; other than Snapmarks, there is nothing in Premium that I want, even if it was free.)

The “simple” ruler fix I want is the rotate align feature from Photoshop (I am sure others have it too), which is you draw a line on a horizontal line on your design, so say you have a rectangular shape that is rotated 3.4 degrees to the left from square. Well it is virtually impossible to square it up on GFUI, so we make jigs (what a waste). Far easier to draw a line down the edge in the software and have it calculates the proper rotation to square the image up. That is such a time saver, and makes fractional degree rotation easier to perform.

If you read the announcement, once you update you should have it again.

When I typed my original comment, Snapmarks was in the ⋮ menu, disabled and showing a Premium flag. Now, it is no longer there. Given some of the limitations of the Glowforge, some alignment issues cannot be managed any way other than Snapmarks. I understand that Glowforge said that some older machines couldn’t run Snapmarks (though I don’t understand why that is), but my machine had Snapmarks and they worked.

Why were Snapmarks taken away? And how do I get them back?

Call support. We can’t help you.

I did. It appears there is a left/right-hand problem at GF…

Thank you for reaching out regarding the Snapmarks feature. I understand that you were expecting to have access to Snapmarks as a beta tester, and it seems the option has disappeared from your menu.

Development on the original version of Snapmark was discontinued in May 2019. However, Snapmark was officially reintroduced as a Premium Feature in November 2025. You can view our official announcement and learn more about the updated feature by clicking the link below:
